Situation Room

about

I wrote this song the day after the big 2017 United States Presidential Election, and as a Canadian, I'm usually not so invested or even, frankly, interested in American politics - but something was different this time around. Never has there been a candidate (running for the highest office in the country, mind you) who was this openly racist, sexist, fear-mongering, race-baiting, divisive, fascist and most of all - orange cheeto looking. Hah. All kidding aside, I saw all this over-boiling hatred that he and his campaign were generating in society. It was pulling all these ugly people full of disgusting hatred, putting them at the forefront and egging them all on.

I watched Trump closely from the point he announced his running - and it felt like every week ~ no.. ~ sometimes every day, there was a new controversy surrounding him, or a new leaked expose of his truly disgusting and unashamed self. Not to mention the disgusting people he surrounds himself with. I thought in my head, like many people did - "he'll never get into office", "oh, he's a joke candidate", "who'd ever vote for that guy?", etc... Until it happened, and when it did, it hit me like a meteor. He was elected amongst all the incompetency and irresponsibility involved in his campaign, and this was only thanks to the corrupt electoral college system. By electing this incompetent fool into office, it showed through the corruption of society to it's very core. Let's face it, his cabinet full of "world-class experts" isn't the dream team either....

Call me a bleeding heart liberal, but really, let's face the facts. The current president of the United States is a bigot, a racist, a sexist, and an outright liar. Donald Trump is such a brazen liar that he even dares to lie about things that we ALL know to be false. How is this even possible? Is up down? Is left right? I have absolutely NO idea any more, and it's truly disorienting.

This song is for the people who don't know where to look or what to think about all of this madness happening in the world right now. Pickup a pad and paper, write your outrage for all of this madness, or maybe draw us all a new reality. I wish I could draw a lot better, but maybe my stick-figure world would be better lived than all this one with all of it's Trump-y-ness.

lyrics

What’s going on in the house across the way
What’s going down in the situation room, I tell you

There’s a man, sitting at his desk
Unqualified to lead this mess
Who’s gonna steer the boat
Who’s gonna save our lives
Who’s gonna steal the day
Make no compromise, in bed with all the spies
Telling you all these lies, I can see evil in their eyes, I tell you

What’s going on in the house across the way
What’s going down in the situation room
I tell you, I tell you, I tell you
I tell you, I tell you

There’s a guy in the far right field
Publishing lies - Hitler in disguise
What’s gonna make his day is when you have to pay
Who’s gonna have your back
When your lifeline up and snaps, you don’t know where you’re at
Adrift in some lagoon, with some twittering buffoon, I tell you

What’s going on? In the house across the way.
What’s going down? In the situation room
I tell you, I tell you, I tell you
I tell you, I tell you
